pet-a-potty vs. wizdog, let the duel begin… Written on November 17, 2009, by marlene.
Wizdog:
Pet-a-potty:
Here’s a video of dogs doing business with the pet-a-potty
Price: Wizdog- $39.95
Maintenance: No refills, except if you want to put newspaper or
wee-wee pads in it to absorb the messes. You’ll have to empty
the pan underneath of all the pee. When the dog poops, you just
have to pick up the grate and toss it off. You never touch the mess
unless it’s liquid-y.
Satisfaction guaranteed! (my ears always perk up at the notion of this)
Made for small to medium sized dogs, but you could put 2 wizdogs
together to make a bigger dog bathroom.
It’s blue and plastic-y looking, which means it gets less design points
for asthetics.
The normal dog can’t destroy this like it annihilates newspaper or
wee-wee pads.
Paws don’t come in contact with the pee (it goes into the grate and
is collected underneath), which means they won’t track it all over
the house. Diarrhea could pose a problem to this theory.
Price: Pet-a-potty: from $179.00-$269.00, plus sod
refills ($9.99-$15.99 each) or synthetic sod refills ($24.00-$37.00 each).
Comes in white polyvinyl and is topped with green grass. Almost like
those wheatgrass coffee table displays everyone was so crazy about
a few years ago.
Simple, pretty design.
Maintenance-I’m sure the sod grows, so you’l have to cut it back some
as it happens. And it’ll need watering regularly. And you have to empty
the pan underneath. Could be messy.
Odor- I can only logically assume that sod retains odor. And when the
dog poos on it, if it’s a semi-formed stool, you’re not going to get it all
up from the grass. There will definitely be remnants of doody there, and
that will undoubtedly smell too.
Dogs can rip up the sod for fun if the thought strikes them. Then you’ve
got urine-pooped sod all over the house and carpets.
In conclusion, I’d go with Wizdog. It’s waaaaaaaay cheaper and seems easier
to maintain. I’d excuse the design because of the price. Pet-a-potty’s for
rich people who have maids to take care of the mess. Too much work for
something that’s supposed to make your life easier.
